Calendar events for organization

Has there been any consideration given to permitting some calendar events to be viewed by everyone in the organization?

A number of groups may have their own events, but they may also plan events open to everyone.

Is there any way for them to show such events to everyone?

For instance, an Events committee may meet regularly to make plans, but then the events they schedule would be open to everyone. Or a choir may have their practices, but then want to let everyone know about their performances.

It could be as simple as a checkbox when making an event, to "Show to everyone in [the organization]".

To make it even more flexible, when viewing a calendar, a user could chose to exclude organization-wide events.

Thanks,
Glen

This is definitely another one we have towards the top of the list. We will be implementing organization wide events a bit differently. The first pass will essentially open up the org calendar (link at top) so that users can add events right there to that calendar. THen when the event is added you can specify if it should be added to the org-wide calendar (a new calendar) or a hub calendar. There will likely be a dropdown to choose from. We'll also consider a feature to allow org admins to restrict members from adding events to the org calendar.

It's possible that we would need to let users add events to a hub calendar and then at that time allow them to choose the org calendar instead.

Org wide events will show up on the org calendar and automatically show hub calendars too.

    Hi Matt,

(I'll reply by email since the discussion is closed on the web site.)

You may want to consider the value of letting hub events show in the shared
view... in this way, they would be nicely color coded to match the hub.

If every person, group or committee just adds to one shared calendar, there
    wouldn't be the color coding...

    Something to think about.
